“Jeanette Winterson's novel about a young woman named Silver finding her place in the world is treated to an imaginative adaptation by Georgette Kelly and ambitious, soulful direction by Jessica Hutchinson in New Leaf's most epic show to date at the DCA storefront theater. While the bildungsroman plot and themes of starting over and the stories we tell ourselves in order to live are nothing particularly groundbreaking, the staging is remarkably affecting, with incredibly thoughtful use of space to signify vast swaths of space and time, overlapping stories, and a lighthouse beacon at its center.”
